Massage

Mary began her massage training in 1995, and subsequently went on to train in Thai Yoga massage, Ayurvedic foot massage, Ayurvedic facial massage, and hot compress massage. This then evolved into an interest in working with cancer sufferers (oncology massage therapy). Mary is one of only a few therapists in England to hold these qualifications. (see below).

Please note: Thai Yoga massag is to improve your natural energy, healing and flexibility with this ancient art from Thailand. The hands, feet and elbows are used to apply pressure while assisting you to stretch. Please wear loose fitting clothes for this massage.

Certification in Oncology Massage

Not long ago, most massage therapists thought it was a contradiction to work with cancer patients. We now know that is unfounded. In fact, massage can be very beneficial in many cases, and more and more oncologists are recommending massage therapy as an adjunctive intervention. However cancer is a complex disease, and massage therapists who wish to work safely and effectively with people living with cancer need specific training.

Mary has trained with the Iris Cancer Partnership in Scotland. The program is led by Gayle MacDonald, a pioneer in this field and author of Medicine Hands: Massage Therapy for People with Cancer and Massage for the Hospital Patient and Medically Frail Client. The training includes: 'Massage for people living with Cancer' and 'Massage in the Oncology setting (Hospital intensive)'. Mary works for the NHS & is a volunteer oncology massage therapist for My Cancer My Choice at the Royal Berkshire Health Clinic in Bracknell.
